Two Top LinkedIn Mistakes

Two Top LinkedIn Mistakes There are two things that new/inexperienced LinkedIn users do that make me want to scream.   LinkedIn is a networking tool.   Networking is about connecting with people.   In order to connect there usually needs to be a common link, connection, interest, something.   Otherwise, why would anyone connect with someone they didnt know?   The person who connects with anyone or everyone is known as a LION LinkedIn Open Networker and it almost always appears in their profile. For the rest of us using LinkedIn, we have different reasons or goals for use of the tool.   If you look at the bottom   of each persons profile, you will see often see what their logic is. Mistake number: Not Reviewing the profile of the person you want to connect with Especially the Contact Settings section Before you send that invitation to connect, see if the person you are inviting has established and stated criteria for connections. Mistake Number Two: Not personalizing the LinkedIn invitation I know, LinkedIn doesnt make personalizing the message the first option, and it can be overlooked or forgotten.   Nothing reeks more of give me, give me, give me   than the canned invitation: Id like to add you to my professional network on LinkedIn. Answer the why question for the receiver.   Tell them why you want to connect.   Remind them how you know them. If you arent sure where the option is to personalize your message,  there are two tricks you need to know. Where to click on the connect button and how to personalize the invite from your mobile device. Tap into these secrets in this post: Always Customize Your LinkedIn Invitation to Connect Seldom would I recommend mass mailing LinkedIn invitations to people.   You can not customize them.   Take it one at a time and nurture the relationship.   This is a personal connection, not a nameless, faceless, unknown contact. If you have a different perspective on LinkedIn invitations, please, share in the comments.
